The faculty of the department is committed to accelerate the process of educational change through improving the quality of research, assessment and evaluation by sharing their experiences with the prospective teachers, teacher educators and researchers. The main objectives are to:

Develop and maintain a culture of research that provides the basis for decision making in education policy and practices

Explore opportunities for novice researchers and faculty members through sharing of experiences on research

Equip prospective teachers with effective classroom teaching, assessment and evaluation skills.

Publish and disseminate research on education and allied disciplines in journals of national and international repute

Provide professional support to IER and other institutions in the area of educational research and assessment

Departmental Achievements |

Every year the department produces 60-70 graduates holding specialization in research and assessment. Those who achieve excellence, find jobs in various public or private sector organizations against varying positions in teaching or research. A few, who intend to seek higher education, are enrolled in MPhil. in Education (Morning/Evening Programme) after qualifying admission test and interview arranged by IER. Our graduates are working in different public and private sector schools, colleges and university. Currently our graduates are working in NTS, Punjab Examination Commission, and research-oriented NGOs such as Idara Taleem-o-Agahi, FAME international etc.

The Department has started its journal ‘Pakistan Journal of Educational Research & Evaluation' (PJERE) and its first issue (December 2016) is available online on the PU website. It is hoped that after fulfilling all the requirements, the department will be in position to apply for its recognition from Higher Education Commission in 2018.

The Department has recently developed four year BS (Research & Assessment) programme and submitted to the Faculty Council for consideration. After recommendation from Faculty Council / BOS, it will be submitted to the Academic Council, University of the Punjab for formal approval.

In future, the Department has the plan to start short certificate level courses in quantitative data analysis (SPSS), qualitative data analysis (NVivo), academic writing, and test item development. |
