Centre for Clinical Psychology

Centre for Clinical Psychology was established by Prof. Dr. Rafia Hassan (Chairperson, Department of Applied Psychology) in 1984 in response to the need felt by the then president of Pakistan for an institution for the training of Clinical Psychologists. Eminent professionals including Prof. Dr. Rafia Hassan (the founding Director), Prof. Dr. Najma Najam (Vice chancellor, KIU), Prof. Dr. Hamid sheikh (Late), Prof. Dr. Nosheen K. Rahman and Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Kausar (VC LCWU) and Prof. Dr. Farah Malik have been the Directors of the Centre for Clinical Psychology. Currently, Dr. Saima Dawood is the Director of Centre for Clinical Psychology. In the beginning, the Centre offered only Advanced Diploma in Clinical Psychology (ADCP) but from 2000, it has added other programs like BS-4 years, MS (Clinical and Speech and Language Pathology), MS Top Up, Ph.D (Clinical Psychology) and a self-supporting program of ADCP (Replica). In addition, community mental health projects, psychological assessment and treatment facilities for common public are also provided by the Centre. A successful training and educational program for children with special needs has been run by the CCP since 1999. Centre for Clinical Psychology is known for its outstanding training in Clinical Psychology. The students are given individualized attention and they are guided at every stage throughout their academic career. An intensive training is provided to the students in Psychological Assessment, Diagnosis and treatment employing various Modalities and Psychotherapeutic Interventions. The Centre has established linkages and collaborations with different hospitals and organizations in order to provide quality training to its students.
The CCP has produced ethically and professionally sound Clinical Psychologists who are serving in diverse settings across the globe.

Mission
The Centre for Clinical Psychology has a very conducive training and learning environment which helps in raising standard of Clinical training and Research. The Centre aims at:
•	Training students in psychological assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the people having psychological problems.
•	Engaging in high level teaching, training and research.
•	Preparing the students to serve in a variety of fields such as Education, Hospitals, Research, Armed Forces, Special Services and NGOs.
•	Providing Assessment and Treatment Services to the community at affordable cost within the premises of Clinical Centre for Psychiatric Disorders and Speech Disorders.
•	Conducting and publishing research related to the field of Clinical Psychology.

Research and Publication
Faculty and students of the Centre are engaged in conducting quality research related to the field of Clinical Psychology. The faculty members are actively involved in research supervision, presenting their research work at national and international platforms and publish their work in journals of international repute. A wide range of research has been conducted on topics include causes and factors of Psychopathology in Pakistan; and efficacy of different Therapeutic Interventions in the context of Pakistani culture. Moreover, development of Indigenous Assessment Tools, Translation and Adaptation of the Assessment tools and Norm Development is also a major area of research in the Centre. Research is part of all academic and training programs and students are provided with individualized research supervision. Centre has published its first issue of “Psychological Abstracts” of the researches conducted by the students and faculty members and it has also been uploaded on the University website. This would enable and facilitate researchers both at home and abroad to have an access to research done at the Centre for Clinical Psychology.

Journal of the Centre
Centre for Clinical Psychology published its official journal “Pakistan Journal of Professional Psychology; Research and Practice” and its second issue is under the process of printing. Research articles from different specializations in Psychology and Allied disciplines covering all aspects of human behavior are encouraged. Although original articles based on empirical data are preferred, brief reports, review articles and single case studies are also considered for publication in the PJPPRP.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

An Overview
Research courses are taught at both undergraduate and graduate level. Individual research projects are essential requirement for students of masters and doctorate level and undergraduate students. Research supervisors are assigned to every student undergoing their research project at masters and doctorate level. 18 research theses are completed and added to library during this year by the MS students and 29 by BS (Hons.) students.

Extension Lectures at Centre for Clinical Psychology
Holding Extension Lectures is an integral part of Center for Clinical Psychology teaching and these lectures are delivered on weekly basis. Learned and Experienced Professionals in the field are invited to share their knowledge with the students. These lectures not only add to the knowledge of the students but also apprise them with new developments in the discipline of Clinical Psychology.
