Objectives:
After completing this course, the student will be able to:
1. Apply Quality and Reliability Management principles and techniques to assess and improve organizational and business process efficiency and effectiveness
2. Practice Quality and Reliability Management to improve customer satisfaction and achieve operational as well as strategic goals
Contents:
Basic concepts of quality: Introduction of Quality, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Quality Management, Total quality management.
Quality philosophies: Philosophies of quality gurus.
Eight Quality Management Principles: Customer focus, Type of customer, Customer satisfaction, Customer satisfaction measurement.
Continuous improvement: Plan- Do – Check- Act cycle (PDCA), Supplier, input, organization, output, customer (SIPOC) analysis, Process interface, Kaizen Japanese 5S+2S Housekeeping System, Lean Six Sigma: Overview. Analytical approach & facts-based decision making (7 QC tools), Quality culture, Involvement of people (Quality control circle).
Business Considerations: Cost of quality, Business Process reengineering, External Supplier Quality, Benchmarking, Waste Reduction.
Reliability Engineering: Introduction to reliability, Bathtub Hazard rate curve, General and Specific Hazard Rate functions, General and Specific Reliability Rate functions, Mean Time to Failure, Evaluation Models, Series and Parallel Networks, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) Method, Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) Methods
